弗吉尼亚·梅奥1920年生于密苏里州圣路易斯。原是歌女，在好莱坞充当小角色。40年代在喜剧片中扮演过放荡的女主角，后在银幕中显示出表演才华，转入正剧角色。50年代成为好莱坞极有魅力的金发女星，被摩洛哥苏丹称为“生活中的真实上帝”。她主演或参与演出的主要影片为《公主与海盗》、《黄金时代》、《妙人绝迹》、《西点军校的故事》、《七海蛟龙》、《魔鬼峡谷》、《理查王与十字军》、《犹他州城堡》等。2005年在加州去世。
