第81届奥斯卡颁奖典礼上，为最佳女配角颁奖的五人中，站在左边第一位的白衣老婆婆就是亲爱的伊娃·玛丽·圣——是的，她还健在。1954年，她因《码头风云》而摘取奥斯卡最佳女配角奖，成为当时的实力红星。1958年Hitchcock 邀请她出演《西北偏北》时，她已算是个大牌明星。在本片中，伊娃扮演的多重身份的坎度小姐，带着一种罕见的病恹恹的美感，她与加里·格兰特第一次在列车里相遇时，满头金发和白皙的脸蛋十分惊艳，最后总统山一场动作戏也表现得极为优秀。不过，伊娃与Hitchcock 的关系却并不友好，在片场，伊娃因为站在一边喝咖啡而惹怒希区：“我不希望我女主角穿着一套3500美元的漂亮外衣，喝得却是泡沫塑料杯里的咖啡。”并让伊娃换一套瓷杯。据说后来伊娃因心情不佳而耍起大牌，迫使Hitchcock 在动作戏中让她吃尽苦头——显然，伊娃在台面上对Hitchcock 的肯定都是虚的。
